Storytime: My Introduction to Prepare/Enrich

The Epiphany Method

September 25, 2025

The Scramble

I remember it like it was yesterday. It was 2019, and I was working full-time as a Program Director for a youth nonprofit while also seeing private clients through Epiphany Lane Counseling. Back then, my practice was mobile—literally “Therapy for Where You Are.” I made house calls, offering play therapy, individual counseling, and family sessions in homes, libraries, and even coffee shops all around Oak Cliff.

One day, a client—deeply worried about her marriage—asked me to see her and her husband. At that time, I mostly worked with individuals, children, and families. Couples therapy wasn’t really my lane. I told her that. But she was convinced I could help. So, I scrambled.

Like most therapists do in moments like that, I went searching. I looked for couples’ assessment templates I could use during intake, and that’s when I stumbled upon something called Prepare/Enrich. It was a self-paced certification program that cost a few hundred dollars—money I hadn’t exactly earned back in my practice yet. But something in me said, Go for it. So, I did.

I’ll be honest: I struggled at first. The training videos were helpful but… not exactly captivating. With my ADHD (and at the time, no medication), it was tough to push myself through material that wasn’t immediately required. I tried to get through them before the couple’s second session, but I just couldn’t.

Still, I kept going. I stretched their intake into an extended, two-session assessment and sent them the Prepare/Enrich inventory. That’s when everything clicked. The handouts, the reports, the built-in structure—it made it so much easier to create a treatment plan that was grounded, intentional, and useful for the couple in front of me.

That experience was my first real introduction to Prepare/Enrich. It didn’t just give me tools; it gave me confidence. And it showed me that even when the path feels uncharted, sometimes taking the leap leads you exactly where you’re supposed to be.

Why I Train Others Now

Here’s the thing: I don’t want other therapists to struggle or get caught off guard the way I did. I know what it’s like to sit across from a couple, trying to piece things together without a roadmap. That’s why I started training other therapists in Prepare/Enrich. I’ve trained my own staff in just one day—and I know I can do the same for you.

But I also want to take it further. Most trainings give you slides, maybe a workbook, and then you never talk to the trainer or other participants again unless you happen to find each other on social media. I want something different. I want this to be a community-building experience.

That’s why in my trainings, we do live role plays that get beyond the “textbook couple.” We act out the more complex issues you might see in your own niche—whether that’s ADHD, trauma, blended families, faith-based work, or nontraditional partnerships. I want you to imagine your clients sitting across from you, and learn how to adapt the assessment to fit their needs.

Because let’s be real: counseling can be an isolating profession. Too often, we’re doing this work alone. I want to change that by creating a space where therapists can show up as themselves, learn, grow, and collaborate on serving the specialized communities we care most about.

The Invitation

That’s why I created Insight to Impact—a one-day training experience designed not just to certify you, but to connect you. You’ll walk away with the tools, confidence, and community you need to serve couples in your niche—without scrambling like I did.

And here’s the part I’m most excited about: we’ll end with the Journey Jumpoff Happy Hour—a community-building event with resource swaps and giveaways. Even if you don’t attend the training, you’re invited to join us and connect with other therapists who care about doing this work well.
